Since last time...
1. I have two unfinished pairs of socks, and one unfinished summer cardigan on the needles. I really should finish those socks and my friend Bryony has been encouraging me to get back to sock knitting but I still have the sock blahs.
2. The summer cardigan has been languishing in the basket since oh... last spring... It's lime green Butterfly 10 and probably 2/3 of the way finished. meh
3. I want a new warm cozy cardigan.
4. This is because my world has frozen solid. I've been warning everyone for years that the purpose of summer is to soak up enough solar radiation so that we don't freeze up solid by February. Last summer there were 3 really warm days, and maybe a total of a couple of weeks of actual summer. It rained pretty much the rest of the time.
5. Today it is -20C with a forecast high of -16C.
6. There is close to three feet of snow pack in my yard.
7. Whoever said "March winds bring April showers that help the flowers bloom in May" didn't live in Canada.
8. I am beginning to doubt global warming. (not really, because I suspect that the continuous deep freeze, deep snow pack, lack of chinooks, and rainey summer are all related phenomena. I'm just cold.)
9. A spindle came back into my life recently. It's a student spindle with a deep groove in the side of the whorl to hold the yarn on it's way up to the hook.I had used it to teach a friend to spin and had given it to her along with a couple of ounces of BFL. Anyway, karma brought it back to me exactly as it was when it left.
10. I like the calm of spindle spinning. I picked it up to fondle and before I really knew what I was doing, smooth, even, thin singles were forming under my fingers.
11. These singles were nothing at all like the much thicker, less even yarn already wound on the shaft.
12. Despite this being the "busy season" at school with the resulting abundance of meetings, deadlines, marking, and document preparation; regardless of the personal stress in my life which comes from an ongoing taxation issue; and absolutely in spite of the frozen wasteland outdoors I am truly very happy.
13. This weekend I've started by writing, will soon go off to yoga, and then will work a great deal. When I need a break for my eyes or my brain or my back, I will pick up my spindle and twirl off a few dozen metres of lightweight singles.
14. It feels so wonderful to be able to live in the light again. (now, if the sun would just burn off the clouds, and a great big chinook would come blasting down the eastern slopes and melt the snow I wouldn't need a new sweater, or socks...)
Edited to add: for EvilKnittingTwin... The lime cardi is the Cable Neck Cardigan from the spring 2010 Interweave Knits. Here's a link to my last post about it. There's even a picture. It looks exactly the same today.
And Bryony... I'm inclined to agree with you...

What pattern are you using for you green cardigan? I am looking for something new to knit! (Evilknittingtwin)

Brrrrrr! If that isn't a reason to knit socks, I don't know what is... ;) Stay warm!
